Java

Java
Originally known as oak, Java is a programming language developed by Sun Microsystems that was first introduced to the public in 1995 and today is widely used to create Internet applications and other software programs.

When used on the Internet, Java allows for small programs known as an applets to be downloaded, enabling the user to perform a specific function or feature that is not available with the standard web browser. Unlike JavaScript, the users must download and/or install the applet or program before being able to utilize the program.
